During your child’s first visit to Tatum Pediatric, Dr. Guymon will complete a gentle and comprehensive oral exam. He will then discuss proper at-home dental care, nutrition, and what to expect in the months and years to come. We include your child during these conversations because they are our first priority. We always take the time to listen and answer each and every question you or your child may have about dental care.
When Should I Schedule My Child’s First Visit?
If you’re not sure when to bring your child in for his or her first dental check-up, it might be sooner than you think! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit a dentist by their first birthday. Great oral health starts with the first tooth.
For your convenience, you can log-in to our patient portal and fill out your child’s paperwork before the first visit. This will allow you and your child to come to the appointment, relax, and enjoy all the amenities we have to offer.
Don’t forget to hit submit at the bottom once you have completed the paperwork!

We are always focused on the health of your child’s teeth and gums, but we think visiting us should also be fun. To make sure that your child’s time is effective and enjoyable, we offer kid-friendly amenities from the welcoming reception area to the treatment room.
We know that every family has a unique and sometimes demanding schedule. In order to help you find a time for dental care that works with your family’s already-packed calendar, we offer several scheduling options.
Family-Block Appointments
Our family-block appointments are great for large families because they let multiple kids be seen on the same day back to back. You only have to make one trip to our Phoenix pediatric dental office and everyone can leave with a bright, clean smile.
Same-Day Treatment
You shouldn’t have to schedule an appointment for an exam and another appointment for a cleaning—we do both in just one appointment! We can also start some treatments the same day we give our diagnosis. So, if your child comes in for a cleaning, and we find that he or she has a cavity, we will give you the option of filling the cavity that same day or scheduling a follow-up appointment. We want to make scheduling dental care easy!
Same-Day Emergency Appointments
Dental emergencies can be really scary for children. If your child is experiencing any pain, call us immediately. We can talk you through the situation and see your child the same day you call us if necessary. For more information, click on this helpful link from the AAPD.
